cat peed on the rug
Blot up everything you can while it's still wet. Volume removed now is smell you never fight later. White cloth, changed often.
The method
- Blot up everything you can while it's still wet. Volume removed now is smell you never fight later.
- Cold water, blotted, repeated. Do not flood — flooding spreads it sideways in the pad.
- White cloth, changed often.
- Never use anything ammonia based. It reads as urine to the animal and marks the spot again.
- Weight dry towels on it and let it draw overnight.
Why the common fix backfires
Urine soaks through to the pad and often the subfloor. Freshener only masks the top. The crystals underneath reactivate with every humid day, which is why the smell keeps returning.
The honest limit
Urine in the pad and subfloor cannot be reached from the surface. We attempt it with sub-surface extraction and treatment, and we tell you honestly when it's beyond that.
