Hot Water Extraction vs Dry Carpet Cleaning
Hot water extraction removes deep soil and is the method the Carpet and Rug Institute and most major carpet manufacturers publish. Dry methods clean the surface and dry faster, which makes them useful for interim commercial maintenance but not for restorative cleaning.
The part that actually matters
The difference is recovery. Extraction sprays solution under pressure and immediately vacuums it back out, carrying suspended soil with it. Dry methods apply a compound or a solvent and remove it mechanically from the top of the pile. Deep soil at the base of the pile is what abrades fiber and shortens carpet life, and only extraction reaches it.
