Steam Cleaning vs Shampooing
Steam cleaning in ordinary use means hot water extraction. Shampooing uses a foaming detergent worked into the pile and is largely obsolete because rinsing it out completely is difficult.
The part that actually matters
Shampoo residue is the origin of the resoiling reputation. Detergent left in the fiber stays sticky and attracts soil, so carpet resoils faster and people blame the cleaning rather than the method.
