METHOD COMPARISON

Local specialist vs national generalist carpet cleaning

The big national generalists offer many services across a wide footprint through call centres and rotating crews. An owner-operated local specialist focuses on carpet, tile, upholstery and pet odour in a handful of towns — the owner does the work, uses a proper acid rinse, and treats deep pet urine at the subfloor. National breadth versus local depth.

Breadth versus depth

The national generalist model offers a wide service menu across a big footprint. If what you want is one number that covers many different jobs across many states, that model exists for a reason and it works.

A specialist runs the opposite way. Spiker does carpet, tile and grout, upholstery, area rugs, mattresses and pet urine — and says plainly what it does not do: no carpet pulling, no padding replacement, no subfloor sealing, no colour sealing on grout, no topical sealer on indoor natural stone.

Who answers the phone

With Spiker the owner answers and the owner does the work, rather than a job booked through a call centre and dispatched to whoever is free.

That is also who you are holding to the standard afterwards. There is one person to talk to about a result, and he lives in the service area.

What the depth actually buys you

Trained to and operating by the IICRC S100 standard: dry soil removal, suspension, extraction, drying, with suspension governed by chemical action, heat, agitation and time.

In practice that means the acid rinse most operations skip, sub-surface pet-urine treatment at 700 to 800 PSI, and an honest account of why carpet grays — oil first, then sand sticking to it, then abrasion, then permanent blooming — which is the part nobody in this trade explains to customers.

Where we work

Galt and Lodi are the two locations, and Wilton and Herald are on the actual route rather than inside a shaded circle on a coverage map. Elk Grove and Sacramento are served from Galt and Lodi, and the drive is built into the schedule rather than hidden in it.

PEOPLE ALSO ASK

The follow-up
questions.

National franchises offer broad service through call centres and rotating crews. An owner-operated local specialist sends the owner to every job, uses a proper acid rinse, and treats deep pet urine at the subfloor. It comes down to whether you want breadth or depth.

Not necessarily, and price is the wrong thing to compare on. What is worth comparing is what is included at the quoted number — dwell time, the rinse, the number of recovery passes — because those are what get cut to hit a low advertised figure.

Ask what temperature the solution reaches at the wand, whether the alkaline cleaner is neutralised with an acid rinse, what the extraction airflow is, and whether the soil leaves the property during the appointment. Four questions, all answerable in a minute.
