Can carpet cleaning help with asthma?
Regularly cleaned carpet can help, because carpet traps airborne allergens and holds them out of the air you breathe, and cleaning takes out what it has trapped. Hard floors let those same particles kick back into the air. Keeping carpet clean empties the filter so it keeps pulling allergens down.
What we can and cannot say about this
Nobody should promise a cure and we do not. Spiker makes no health-outcome claims and takes no measurements on a residential job.
What is describable is the mechanism, and the mechanism is checkable: carpet holds particulate down in the fibre rather than letting it circulate, and extraction takes that load out of the building. Reducing the reservoir reduces exposure. That is as far as the honest version goes.
Why the floor is only part of it
A large share of the allergen burden in a house sits in the mattresses and the soft furniture rather than the floor. The mechanism is dust mites, which live on the dead skin we shed, and it is their microscopic waste that becomes airborne.
The shedding concentrates where you would expect — eight hours a night in a bed, four or five in the same chair. Somebody who reacts at night and is better during the day is often reacting to where they sleep rather than to the carpet.
The habits that do the most
Vacuum slowly and often with a HEPA machine. Slow passes matter far more than suction, because the machine needs time to lift particulate out of the pile, and this is what empties the filter between cleanings.
Vacuum the bare mattress every time you strip the sheets — a minute, and the only moment the surface is accessible. Vacuum the couch and your usual chair weekly.
Then extraction on a real cycle for carpet, upholstery and mattresses, because vacuuming reaches the dry portion and extraction reaches what vacuuming cannot.
And the residue point, which matters here specifically
A cleaning that leaves residue behind makes things worse rather than better. Fragrance carrier plus trapped moisture plus body oils is a growth medium, and sticky residue holds soil in the pile instead of letting it be vacuumed away.
So the acid rinse is not a technicality on a job like this. If somebody in the house has a specific sensitivity, say so when you book and the chemistry is adjusted.
The follow-up
questions.
Carpet holds particulate down in the fibre where a HEPA vacuum can take it out of the house, while a hard floor lets the same material lift back into the air with every footstep. Kept clean, it is doing more for the air than the hard floor is.
More often than the default, and the cleaning matters as much as the interval — residue left behind holds soil and undoes the point. Vacuuming slowly and weekly does more day to day than any single service.
Extraction takes out a substantial share of the reservoir they live in. We do not make allergen-percentage or health-outcome claims about it, because those are not measurements anyone takes on a residential job.
