Carpet Cleaning for Germaphobes
Hot water extraction with a documented process: alkaline pre-spray to release oils, high-pressure hot rinse with an acid rinse agent to neutralise, sub-surface enzyme treatment where there is biological contamination, and protector applied to neutralised fiber. The owner of Spiker is a self-described germaphobe, which is why the process is documented rather than improvised.
If germs are what worry you, the thing to understand is that carpet is a reservoir. It holds dust mite allergen, pet dander, bacterial oils, skin cells and everything tracked in on shoes. Vacuuming removes the dry portion. Extraction removes what vacuuming cannot.
The part most people miss is that a bad cleaning makes this worse, not better. Residue left in carpet feeds bacterial growth — fragrance carrier plus trapped moisture plus body oils is a growth medium. A job finished without a rinse leaves exactly that.
What matters for you specifically: a rinse step that neutralises, low residual moisture so nothing incubates, enzyme treatment for biological contamination rather than fragrance over the top of it, and an honest report of what is still there when we leave.
