Oxidisers
An oxidiser breaks the chemical bonds that make a stain visible rather than lifting the material out. That is useful on some organic stains and genuinely risky on dyed fibre, because the same reaction that removes a stain’s colour can remove the carpet’s. Hydrogen peroxide is the one people reach for at home.
What is actually happening
Oxygenating cleaners have a real place. On manmade tile the sequence starts with one scrubbed into the grout lines and given real dwell time, because grout is porous and what is in there is organic. On carpet the calculation is different, because the fibre is dyed and the stain is sitting on dyed material. Where an oxidiser works, it works by destroying colour. It cannot distinguish between the colour you want gone and the colour the mill put there. On a stable modern synthetic that is often fine; on wool, on older carpet, and on anything hand-dyed it is not.
How you prevent it
Do not pour peroxide on carpet. If a spot needs oxidising chemistry it needs a test in an inconspicuous area first, and that test takes minutes and prevents the one mistake that cannot be reversed. Bleached fibre is not a stain afterwards — it is a repair.
