How do you get dog or cat urine smell out of carpet?

FIRST 60 SECONDS MATTER MOSTWhat should you never do with a pet urine stain?
Never use a steam cleaner or hot water on urine — heat sets the protein and locks in the odor. Never use ammonia-based cleaners; they smell like urine to the animal and invite a repeat.
THIS IS WHAT MAKES IT PERMANENTWhy does pet urine behave that way?
Urine is alkaline when fresh and crystallizes as it dries. Those crystals release odor whenever humidity rises, which is why the smell comes roaring back on a warm damp day months later. Deodorizers do nothing to crystals — they have to be dissolved and physically extracted.
How much does it cost to have this treated?
Pricing is identical across all eight cities. The full breakdown — what each service costs and what it covers — is at the bottom of the carpet cleaning page.
