Never use bleach or a general spotter on rust. Bleach strips carpet dye permanently, and most household spotters do nothing to iron oxide while adding a second chemistry a professional then has to work against.

Rust is a mineral deposit rather than an organic soil, so the alkaline chemistry that releases oil does nothing to it. It needs a specific acidic rust treatment applied carefully, and on some fibres and some dyes it cannot be pushed hard without risking the colour. Move the metal object first, or it simply comes back.
